Vineyards in Moravia with wine column

Our Mission

Czech Wine Trails exists to bridge the gap between Czech wine culture and the international audience that has yet to discover it. While Moravia has produced wine for centuries, it remains one of Europe's best-kept secrets in the wine world. Our goal is to change that through clear, detailed, and honest writing grounded in firsthand experience.

Every article on this site reflects direct knowledge gathered from vineyard visits, winemaker interviews, and countless hours spent in Moravian cellars. We do not accept paid placements, and our recommendations are based solely on quality, accessibility, and value.

What We Cover

  • Regional wine guides with practical visitor information
  • In-depth grape variety profiles specific to Czech terroir
  • Tasting notes and winery recommendations
  • Seasonal travel advice for wine-focused trips
  • Cultural context connecting Czech wine to its history and landscape
Our Team

Our content is produced by writers and researchers with backgrounds in viticulture, travel journalism, and Central European food culture.

Wine Knowledge WSET Level 3 certified contributors with specific focus on Central European appellations
Local Access Ongoing relationships with over 40 Moravian wineries, from boutique producers to established estates

Field Verification Every recommended winery and route personally visited and evaluated within the past 18 months

How We Source Information

Our editorial process relies on three tiers of verification:

  1. Primary research: Vineyard visits, winemaker conversations, and direct tasting of current vintages.
  2. Institutional data: Statistics and regulatory information from the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic, Czech Agriculture Ministry, and regional tourism boards.
  3. Published references: Cross-checking against established wine literature including Jancis Robinson's Wine Grapes and The Oxford Companion to Wine, as well as Czech Tourism official data.

When we update an article, we note the revision date at the bottom. If a recommended winery has changed its hours, pricing, or availability, we update the information within 30 days of learning about the change.

Editorial Independence

Czech Wine Trails does not accept sponsored content or paid reviews. Wineries do not pay for inclusion in our guides. We may receive complimentary tastings during press visits, which is standard practice in wine journalism, but this does not influence our evaluations. If a wine or experience does not meet our standards, we simply do not write about it.
